Let’s Celerbrate Some Lady Slippers

The Lady Slipper Celebration is a community event starting in Blackduck, MN that follows the Lady SlipperĀ  Scenic Byway through Pennington all the way to Cass Lake. Timed when Minnesota’s State Flower will likely be in peak bloom, the event also celebrates the history, rich cultural heritage, and the diverse arts of the area.

The 103rd Reason to Hate Global Warming

Deadly spiders: warmer temps, expanding territories, theĀ  “most feared spider in North America” moves in. Damn.

I have an issue with spiders, but it didn’t always used to be this way. Up to my tweens I eagerly pursued and caught spiders. Sometimes just to check them out, other times to safely transport them back outside. Now, I fight the urge to react to spiders so that I don’t embed such an irrational response in the Duder’s 2yo brain. It’s a challenge for Wifey too.

Governor’s Fishing Opener to be Greeted by Protect Our Manoomin Rally

There is a long standing tradition for the Governor of Minnesota to celebrate the Walleye fishing opener on one of our many wonderful lakes. But this year it won’t just be anglers, but also people concerned for the future of wild rice, aka Manoomin, gathering.

Action Alert: tomorrow, Sat., May 14th, 7am @ Zorbaz, 5 miles south of Grand Rapids.

As described on the Facebook event page, Protect Our Manoomin is hosting this rally as part of their continued efforts to create awareness of the wild rice sulfate standard. Current legislation that will negatively impact wild rice is expected to pass
