Enough Crying ‘Uncle’, Shurley is Back!

by Doug MacRostie

When we heard that Uncle Shurley would be reunited for a concert my wife and I had to find a baby sitter. This is the kind of occasion for Wifey to break out that special pair of vintage 60′s fruit tights, and I might actually dance!

It’s been about a year since Uncle Shurley took a break and left all of us with a bad case of withdrawals. Cure what ails ya this Friday night, April 15th, Blue Ox, in Bemidji, 9pm.

From the bits and pieces I remember from scattered conversations, Uncle Shurley recorded an entire album; vocals and everything.

Old-Fashioned Wheat Bread Never So Much Fun

by Doug MacRostie

This was going to be huge. A day with the Forbes? Is it true they use matching plates? Coool.

My wife and I spent a day/evening making muk luks and bread with Mike and Karen of Whiskey Jack Flats. We would be divided into pairs – sort of a boys vs girls.

Their team was definitely louder. But as you can see in this picture we were cooler.

She started it!

Raise Your Hand If You Like Rubber Boot Weather!

by Doug MacRostie

As the Winter snow slowly drains away through twisting streams of slush and mud, as the sun rises higher in the sky, and the sounds of returning birds sparkle from the woods, I breathe deeply and smile wide as a neard.

Each new season in the never ending cycle brings excitement to my eyes, but Spring holds a special place. This time of renewal, awaking, new life; the yearly reset button, is also the season of my love.

Could a relationship have any stronger foundation than scratching streams in the driveway with the heel of your boots? Not likely.
